I’m not hungry.  I’m not poor.  I’m also not the 1%.  The vast majority of the people in this country aren’t hungry or poor for that matter.  That’s not to say that everything is great, but if you’re going to protest, at least be honest.

There’s a new plan from OWS.  They want to all stop paying their student loans at the same time:

Under the campaign — which grew from the original Occupy Wall Street protest and is now known, inevitably, as Occupy Student Debt — borrowers will pledge to stop repaying their student loans once 1 million people vow to do so as well. The campaign is calling for several reforms of higher education, including free public colleges, no-interest loans, greater transparency at private and for-profit colleges and complete forgiveness of all existing student debt.

You know who else thinks this is a good idea?  Sallie Mae.  They’re probably licking their chops and having champagne parties with a conga line right now.  You know who gets screwed?  Taxpayers.

Here’s how the student loan racket works:

1. You borrow $20k from Sallie Mae
2. You go into default
3. The government pays Sallie Mae the balance
4. The government sends your account to a collection agency owned by Sallie Mae, who adds 25% and gets a 28% commission on the collection
5. It is not possible to discharge the debt and you’ll have your wages garnished among other things

So basically, taxpayers are completely on the hook for the default… not the bank.  As such, the only thing this plan is going to accomplish is fucking over the taxpayer while simultaneously making the banks richer.  Brilliant plan OWS.

Never in my life could I have guessed that someone would have an actual, honest to god, literal pity party.  I wonder if they had chips and dip or a little party platter of cheese and crackers, too.

Let’s examine this one.  For those of you that don’t know, TRICARE is basically government run healthcare.  It’s the closest thing we have in the US to England’s NHS thing.  The doctors are all government employees and it is 100% free to use TRICARE services (no premiums or co-pays at military hospitals)… and this lady is bitching about it.

Now let’s look at military pay.  Let’s say her husband is an E-2 (PV2).  Their base pay is $1671 per month.  You have to be a pretty shitty soldier to be stuck at E-2 though.  Even the worst soldiers can easily make it to E-4 (SPC).  That’d put your pay at $1946 per month and it increases for each year of service.

Now you may be thinking to yourself, “Self, $1671 per month isn’t very much money!”  Well here’s the thing about the military.  First of all, if you’re stationed at a base with quarters, you can get free housing.  If you want to live off post, you get what’s called a BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) that varies based on the cost of living in your area. Let’s say you’re an E-2 stationed at Fort Bragg, NC.  You’re going to get another $990 per month.  (New York City would net you a whopping $2622 BAH per month).

You also get a Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS), which is another $325 per month.

Then, of course there’s all of the other things like hazardous duty pay, family separation allowances and all sorts of other additions.

So free healthcare and probably making around $35k per year (not to mention things like the GI Bill).  Also, you don’t pay any sales taxes at the commissary (groceries), the exchange (AAFES… which is kinda like a weird department store that kinda sells everything… kinda like Target, but not really), and most importantly the Class 6 (liquor).

Yeah, fuck you lady.  You’re living a middle class lifestyle on the taxpayers’ dime and you’re fucking bitching about it.  Wait until your husband hits the actual productive workforce instead of the destructive workforce before you start bitching.

Oh and the poverty line for a family of 3 is $18,530… so no, you’re not below the poverty level, either.

Ha!  You may be thinking to yourself, “That asshole sitting there handcuffed on the ground was dressed up as a cop.  What an idiot!”
